{short description of image}David was possibly the first child of David and Juliana born 1865 in Birdham. David Jnr made a career on the sea. We Know he served in the first World War, a post card from HMS Jackal dated 1915 reads as follows.

My dearest brothers and sisters just a line to you hopind this will find you all quite well as I am pleased to say it leaves me at present. But must tell you we are awfully busy now chasing from one place to another. Wishing you a happy new year and a prospereous one. I am writing to charlie* so now I conclude with fondest love to all and remain you ever brother D Mayhead.


We do not know if david married or indeed how long he served in the Navy.

* Could Charlie be brother James who liked to be called Charles James? if so is he the same Charles James grandfather of Ron Mayhead from New Zealand
