ElizabethThis page is taken from a more complete works produced by Michael and Dee BOND Reproduced with our grateful thanks Elizabeth with her mother Elizabeth was the first daughter of David and Juliana christened 6 September 1868. She was always known as Tean. I don't how this came about, perhaps its a pet name for Elizabeth. They used pet names a lot in those days. this is why tracing families can be a bit tricky sometimes. Mary Ann would be Polly. Tean was in service by 1881 aged 14, the address was the subdenery. The head of the house was George Mathews. its interesting to note that other inhabitants of the Subdenery were Rubin Robert Mayhead and his wife Catherine, son Thomas and daughter Georgina. Tean never married but was however left quite a considerable amount of money from her employer, weather or not this was George we have no way of Knowing, Apparently the whole amount was gambled away or so the story has it. She then carried on to become housekeeper in Montague Square, London. I'm led to believe that the owners of the house were two sisters, Miss Evie & Lucy Davenport. |
